Promoting the introduction of good practices in wastewater sludge treatment, use and disposal. Promoting the bioeconomy and the requisite cross-sectoral cooperation.
STATE OF IMPLEMENTATION
Implementation has started. (The implementation of one or more planned elements of the measure is underway.)
Wastewater sludge is mainly used as a fertilising product, especially in landscaping. The recycling of phosphorus as a sludge-based fertilising product has been examined. The programme for nutrient recycling has promoted practices relating to the use of wastewater sludge. The comprehensive reform of the Fertiliser Act, which entered into force in 2022, also takes into account the potential offered by wastewater sludge as a fertiliser product.
