Developing water protection measures in forestry, especially those related to regeneration in peatland areas, to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus emissions to water.
STATE OF IMPLEMENTATION
Implementation has started. (The implementation of one or more planned elements of the measure is underway.)
New information has been produced particularly on old drained peatland forest areas, and new studies have been funded to improve the assessment of the impact on waters and to determine where water protection measures relating to forestry should be implemented in the future. The use of wood material (such as small-diameter trees or logging residues) and biochar to clean waters in forest drains and settlement ponds has been tested in R&D projects. A project on run-off waters (Valumavesi) has developed water management in forestry by testing two-stage channels in forestry.
