The measure was not implemented in the planned scope. However, measures are being taken at local level to reduce hydrographic changes. For instance, in conjunction with the renovation of bridges and causeways, completely new openings to ensure water flow are constructed or old ones are improved.
In the coastal area with islands, local hydrographic changes are caused by causeways and bridges built in water bodies. As the natural water flow is prohibited, the changes in the water areas are like those of eutrophication, whereby water quality, vegetation, seabed quality and sea animal population will change. The effects can reach hundreds of meters for example from the causeways.
The first phase of the measure will identify sites with deteriorated local flow conditions in coastal areas, and in the second phase, rehabilitation measures will be drawn up to improve the conditions.
