DESCRIPTION

Co-operation with Russia and Estonia to protect and regenerate the population of the ringed seal in the Gulf of Finland. The state of the population and necessary measures are examined and assessed together. The planned measures will be implemented.

National measures are created for the population of the Archipelago Sea, to protect and regenerate the population in the area.

Aerial counts of ringed seals in the Archipelago Sea and the Gulf of Finland

DESCRIPTION OF ACTION

The southern populations (the Archipelago Sea and the Gulf of Finland) of the Baltic ringed seal were counted on ice in the spring of 2018. At the same time, Russia counted ringed seals in its waters. In the coming years, aerial counts will be carried out, ice conditions permitting, if funding is secured.
