DESCRIPTION OF ACTION
The project developed, tested and piloted a physical-biological method (Envistone) to recover ammonium nitrogen as nitrate from wastewaters generated in agriculture, forestry and industry and to process it into a commercial nutrient solution. The project constructed a functioning facility in Kajaani, which removes nitrogen from landfill leachates before they are conducted into the environment. The process is now being dimensioned for the treatment of residue nitrogen from a wastewater treatment plant at a slaughterhouse waste treatment plant and for nitrogen removal from reject water from a composting plant after land filtration.
