Plan for the assessment of PCDD/F and mercury loading from the Kymijoki river

DESCRIPTION OF ACTION

The purpose of the study was to investigate the load of contaminants from the Kymijoki river on the Gulf of Finland and factors affecting it. Based on the results, predictive models were developed for dioxin and furan (PCDD/F) and mercury compounds, which can be used to simulate annual loads.

The study has been completed, and the final report (in Finnish, with English abstract) was published in 2018. The results, however, increased uncertainty, and a follow-on project to study the marine area is being considered.
