Local fishing project

DESCRIPTION OF ACTION

Nutrients can be removed from the sea by fishing cyprinid fish, which helps to reduce eutrophication in coastal waters. In addition, the project promotes the use of cyprinid fish as food. The project initiated cooperation with the K Group, and the first product for consumers under the retail chain’s Pirkka label was launched in 2017: Saaristolaiskalapihvit, fish patties produced by Apetit. The third Pirkka product will be available in shops in May 2020. During the project, demand for roach and bream has increased, and other operators have entered the market with their products. The final report on the project will be published by the end of 2020.
