Including the ability to “read the sea” into the national curriculum of comprehensive schools

DESCRIPTION OF ACTION

The Far out! project turns pupils into environmental scientists and researchers investigating their local environment. Far out! is a key project funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education that aims to develop pedagogy required by the new national curriculum by creating models for multidisciplinary, phenomenon-based learning. Local waters near schools – lakes, rivers or the sea, depending on the location – are important learning environments for the schools involved in the project. Brochures have been produced on the network involved in the work and on the “Our schools’ nearby waters” project.
