Gypsum initiative

DESCRIPTION OF ACTION

The Gypsum Initiative seeks to promote the gypsum treatment of fields in eight countries surrounding the Baltic Sea. The project will establish a network of farmers, researchers and authorities to enable the gypsum treatment of fields, determine how well gypsum is suited for use locally and make preparations for the implementation of gypsum treatment on a larger scale and its inclusion in national agricultural subsidy programmes. The project is carried out by the John Nurminen Foundation, the Finnish Environment Institute and the University of Helsinki.
