Baltic Sea Challenge

DESCRIPTION OF ACTION

The Baltic Sea Challenge (BSC) is a network initiative that invites organisations to commit themselves to protecting the Baltic Sea, to build their own Baltic Sea Action Plan and to implement it. In 2020, there are more than 300 member organisations in the BSC Network from the countries around the Baltic Sea. The number of organisations that have joined the BSC now amounts to more than 300. Even though the initiative was started by the cities of Helsinki and Turku in Finland, its existence is particularly due to the network’s member organisations and it is for the benefit of these partners. Helsinki and Turku support and encourage partners to join the initiative’s water protection and Baltic Sea work. The Action Plan for 2014–2018 comprised 75 measures divided across five goals. The Action Plan for 2019–2023 comprises almost 120 measures. One of the goals of the action plan is “Active Baltic Sea Citizenship”, and therefore different forms of communication play a key role in the activities.
