Assessment of threatened habitat types in Finland (LuTu)

DESCRIPTION OF ACTION

The second assessment of threatened habitat types in Finland was completed in 2018. (Publications: Luontotyyppien punainen kirja. Osa 1 ja Osa 2; shorter English version: Threatened Habitat Types in Finland 2018 – Red List of Habitats – Results and Basis for Assessment). The assessment project coordinated by the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) assessed more than 400 habitat types ranging from sea bottoms to fells, applying the international Red List of Ecosystems Categories and Criteria (RLE). More than 120 habitat type experts participated in the assessment work, and the project involved the most relevant organisations producing habitat type data for each main group of habitats (Baltic Sea, Baltic Sea coast, inland waters and shores, mires, rock outcrops and scree, seminatural grasslands and wooded pastures, fell habitats). As a follow-up, the habitat type expert groups will participate in and support ongoing processes that aim to improve the state of habitat types.
